Performed by the Song and Dance Youth Theatre
Song and Dance Youth Theatre presents Jesus Christ Superstar, the rock-opera by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and Tim Rice.
This is SDYT’s fifth annual Hallowe’en production. Following the success of last year’s spooky but light-hearted Hallowe’en pantomime Jekyll and Hyde: Make Mine A Double, the young performers are making a welcome return to the high-drama, deeply emotional genre of the greatest story ever told.
‘We love doing the funny stuff like Jekyll and Hyde,’ says Lucy O’Byrne, who is taking on the role of Pontius Pilate in JCS and played Maria in SDYT’s highly-acclaimed West Side Story two years ago, ‘but this year, we’re all jumping at the chance to get back to doing something more with greater depth.’
Lucy has most recently performed in the sell-out success Les Misérables at the Helix Theatre, and is delighted to be joined by several Les Mis cast members for this production - including Donal Brennan (Howth) as Jesus and Hilary Murnane (Clontarf) as Mary Magdalene. In fact, SDYT, although based in Baldoyle, now boasts members from all over Dublin, and as far away as Maynooth and Arklow.
‘We’re delighted not only to be able to support and nurture the talent of our regular performers, but also to welcome fresh talent to the Youth Theatre this year. This is shaping up to be our best show so far,’ says Susan Peakin, stage manager for the production.
